Minunata lume nouă a elitelor și economia verde

The Brave New World of elites and the green economy (English version at the end of this article)

Elita puterii, C. Wright Mills

Summit of Paris in October 1972

Vezi  HYPERLINK „https://www.princeofwales.gov.uk/speech/speech-hrh-prince-wales-countryside-1970-conference-steering-committee-wales-cardiff” https://www.princeofwales.gov.uk/speech/speech-hrh-prince-wales-countryside-1970-conference-steering-committee-wales-cardiff.

The Limits to Growth, New York Times, 2 aprilie 1972,  HYPERLINK „https://www.nytimes.com/1972/04/02/archives/the-limits-to-growth-a-report-for-the-club-of-romes-project-on-the.html” https://www.nytimes.com/1972/04/02/archives/the-limits-to-growth-a-report-for-the-club-of-romes-project-on-the.html.

The Brave New World of elites and the green economy

“The powers of ordinary men are circumscribed by the everyday worlds in which they live, yet even in these rounds of job, family, and neighborhood they often seem driven by forces they can neither understand nor govern. „Great changes” are beyond their control, but affect their conduct and outlook nonetheless. The very framework of modern society confines them to projects not their own, but from every side, such changes now press upon the men and women of the mass society, who accordingly feel that they are without purpose in an epoch in which they are without power”.

The Power Elite, C. Wright Mills

Years that will come after the publishing of the First Global Revolution report in 1991 will be the years for a complete transformation of the world. But the dice for what mankind will experience in the next years as a radical change in the world were rolled on the game table before. Between the ’70 and ’80, or in ’92, when the cards are prepared during the Club of Rome’s meetings, World Population and Environmental Conferences, and the Earth Summit.

In the previous article, I made some remarks concerning how our economy runs today and on which I will remind again here. I said that our economy has started to be articulated for the last years in terms that interfere with sociology science. And that a small group of very powerful people from this planet who take the decisions for us in the name of the ‘good of humanity’, thus influencing our daily existence, usually called the elite, are pushing today new rules, legislation measures for a green economy.

Well, this ‘green economy’ that seems to have appeared suddenly from the middle of nowhere has in fact its origins in the ecology movement from ’70 and its first conferences, being closely related to the Environmental Revolution or Green Revolution without which the Global Revolution could be neither understood nor explained.

‘A green vision’ for ‘a green economy’: where it appeared from?

Starting with the ’70, more conferences dedicated to environmental issues are taken place. There are so many, and the number of conferences, summits on environmental issues is so big so that I will make reference only to a few of them on which I considered to be relevant for the understanding of what is today this ‘green economy’.

The environment has ceased to be an ecological issue left only in the hands of NGOs and became a political issue when the quality of air has been debated at Strasbourg in 1964, to the European Conference on Air Pollution Council of Europe. Soon after the end of WWII and after the adoption of the first Marshall Plan. In a Europe increasingly concerned about pollution issues and of natural resources ending, but particularly in a much more devastated Germany, hoping to get an economic recovery after the war by the currency reform.

Those will be the years of the hippies, of those who, for no propagandistic reason, embraced too easily and without questing themselves why ‘the green jargon’ massively spread by the media that will lead to the modern environmental movement.

In February 1970, their British Royal Highnesses attended the European Nature Conservation Conference held again in Strasbourg at the headquarters of the Council of Europe. This marked the opening of the European Nature Conservation Year. For the first time there, a British Royal House representative like Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, required politicians to act now in the name of protecting Nature; and when another Royal figure like Prince of Liège spoke about the growth of the population as a problem. Two years before the Limits to Growth report to be published. More than that, Nixon himself has sent for the Conference a 27-page text with a message concerning US future measures on air, water, environmental pollution.

Even Prince Charles said at the Countryside conference from Wales that “one of the most basic problems is people”. Yes, this was the sign that something was changing but not in the air, into politics. Once with the launching of the European Nature Conservation Year 1970 in Strasbourg and in Wales, politics became more ‘green’, namely ecological.

Fact that proved to be obvious when in the spring of 1972 the Limits to Growth report is published and when in the summer the UN Conference on the Human Environment is held in Stockholm, soon followed by the Paris Summit from the fall. All events that are going one after another resemble Niagara Falls. Are waterfall-events. They fall on top of each other just as water runs down into a waterfall.

Those are nothing else than parts of a preparatory process for making of that synthesis between economic development and the environment, as the recommendations of the Stockholm Conference report tell us. Mixed up together, all these events give birth to a unifying discourse by which is projected a new world vision.

The 4th World Wilderness Congress – an event for the Brave New World

This was enough clearly and at the 4th World Wilderness Congress from the fall of ’87. Mr. Maurice Strong, who organized the UN Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, could not miss, of course, the event. He was there at the Congress like many other members of the elite: the world bankers, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, some of the Rockefeller’s family, David Rockefeller, toute la crème de la société. But what were the elite and the world bankers doing after all in Denver, Colorado, at an event interested in the conservation of nature? Does not conservation of nature stands in opposition to economic development?

For the elite which thinks in dialectical terms seems to be not this way. George Washington Hunt, an entrepreneur from Colorado, who took part in the event almost randomly, we might say, has been there too and has met with the elite. Some years after participation, just before the ’92 Rio Summit, convinced that what has listened to in Denver was a fraud, he let us a testimony of truth by speaking freely in a videotape recording. And did not stop here. Mr. Hunt made the next best thing by exposing the elite’s Plan for this Brave New World on radio and television, meaning it has spoken about what he has heard with his own ears and saw with his own eyes at the Congress, things that today are too easily labeled as ‘conspiracy theories’.

We could ask here if there is indeed a conspiracy when the elite made a call at this Congress for the World Conservation Bank. Just after what in ’72 at the Paris Summit has been discussed about an International Monetary Reform and the Single Market. Or, more directly, is a conspiracy when Baron Edmond de Rothschild says with his own mouth for the Denver Forum that “this International Conservation Bank must know no frontiers, no boundaries” and that “involves all sectors of the human community, governmental and intergovernmental agencies, the public and private agencies”? No, those are public statements made by the elite at an international meeting and which, certainly, are not without an echo in time. More than ideals or visions, as the Baron said, those are already political measures on their road today; that will affect the lives of millions of people from this planet, and we shall see if in a ‘good way’.

The pages of Agenda 21 were not written yesterday, at the beginning of this, or last year. They have been written a long time ago. As a matter of fact its origins can be found in these two major events: the 4th World Wilderness Congress and Rio Summit from ’92. ‘Sustainable Development’, a defining term for the green economy, has appeared for the first time in the pages of the UN report ‘Our Common Future’ from ’87, of whose author was Prime Minister of Norway, Mrs. Gro Harlem Brundtland, who attended both events from Denver, Colorado, and Rio de Janeiro.

There, in Brazil, together with Maurice Strong, she has spoken about the objectives of Agenda 21: sustainable development, eradication of poverty, achieving greater equality within and between nations so on. By a new form of collective commitment that would ‘harmonize’ the North and South relationships; so, between the rich and the poor countries, not between the Western and Eastern worlds for building a global democracy. A commitment that would be no other than Terra Carta launched at the beginning of this year by Prince Charles. Among whose priorities do not stands harmonizing the world’s poles, but the founding of the International Conservation Bank.

Conclusions

In the end, what is this green economy and with all the buzz around her? Who is the motor behind the environmental movement from the ’70?

Even if we could easily identify many authors for today’s script Green New Deal, of whose policies finds its roots in the environmental movement, it seems that the main promoter of this movement and the one who came with the idea and the money, of course, for the founding of the International Conservation Bank is Baron Edmond de Rothschild. As Maurice Strong said at the Denver Forum, ‘there is no better person’ than Rothschild who has spoken like a pioneering one about the idea of conversion of the relationship between conservation and economic development to transform it into a synthesis that however will always remain as an ideal.

Baron Rothschild incarnated the perfect synthesis of the movement that he gave birth, just as how Mr. Environment, William Ruckelshaus (Director of US Environmental Protection Agency) struggled with Mr. Development, David Rockefeller (Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations) for the sake of the public show. This metaphor is by no means far from reality, since the environmental movement is a dialectical movement inspired by Hegel’s philosophy where each pioneer has his role. Thus, we have the thesis ‘protection of the environment’ that opposes the ‘economic development’ antithesis (but formally only) from which it’s expected a synthesis, namely the unification of the two of them.

The ‘green economy’ would be then a new form of an ideology born from a new vision of the world, that wants to provide a synthesis between the ‘protection of the environment’ and ‘economic development’, and that borrows terms from sociology science and from ecology mixing them up.

In such a changed world remains only the old question of the Chief Executive officer of Rothschild Australia, Richard Martin, from the launching of the Carbon Credit Investment Fund in 2002: “With recent developments in international climate change policy, the question is no longer if, but when the global carbon trading market will emerge”. We will add and who will benefit most from the carbon taxes and of the foundation of the International Conservation Bank? Common people? I don’t think so.

The latest policies adopted by the European Commission in May 2020, through “Farm to Fork and Biodiversity Strategies” Programme – the core part of its new EU Green Deal, show that in the next years the production of food will decrease drastically, thus causing hunger for millions of people. And as if this would not be enough, the traditional economy, all together with the small business of the middle class might collapse under the governance of the mega-banks cartel. What makes us wonder if starting up of tomorrow we are not moving towards a tyranny, a dictatorship? To a dystopian, totalitarian society, like in George Orwell’s novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, or as in the screening of Andrew Niccol, Gattaca, and of Terry Gilliam, Brazil.

Endnotes

The European Conference on Air Pollution Council of Europe took place in Strasbourg, 24th June-1st of July 1964. As it results from consulting the EPA National Library Catalog, the number of conferences on ecological issues is big what it means that the environment was one of the main topics for research and debating in the epoch. In this direction, see  HYPERLINK „https://cfpub.epa.gov/ols/catalog/advanced_records_found.cfm?&FIELD1=SUBJECT&INPUT1=Air%20pollution%20congresses&TYPE1=EXACT&LOGIC1=AND&COLL=&SORT_TYPE=MTIC&start_row=101” https://cfpub.epa.gov/ols/catalog/advanced_records_found.cfm?&FIELD1=SUBJECT&INPUT1=Air%20pollution%20congresses&TYPE1=EXACT&LOGIC1=AND&COLL=&SORT_TYPE=MTIC&start_row=101.

The European Nature Conservation Conference held again in Strasbourg from February 9th to 12th, it has marked the opening of the European Nature Conservation Year 1970, recognized to be the birth year for the modern environmental movement. Ten days after the Nature Conservation Conference from Strasbourg, Prince Charles launched the European Nature Conservation Year at the Countryside conference in Wales. See  HYPERLINK „https://www.princeofwales.gov.uk/speech/speech-hrh-prince-wales-countryside-1970-conference-steering-committee-wales-cardiff” https://www.princeofwales.gov.uk/speech/speech-hrh-prince-wales-countryside-1970-conference-steering-committee-wales-cardiff.

In 1966, the Council of Europe proclaimed the European Year for Nature Conservation (ENJ) 1970. Thus, the idea for the European Conservation Year stems partially from a report to the Council of Europe’s Committee for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources. The other contribution belongs to the first Countryside conference from 1963, as well as to the second one from 1965. For this, see  HYPERLINK „https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/commons/1969/mar/10/european-conservation-year-1970” https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/commons/1969/mar/10/european-conservation-year-1970.

On March 2, 1972, Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington hosted a 1-day symposium called the ‘Limits to Growth’, attended and by Dennis Meadows, the one who has headed a study group at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on this subject. Some days later, on March 12, the book The Limits to Growth. A Report for the Club of Rome’s Project on the Predicament of Mankind is presented to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, based on the results of MIT’s study. The book circulates as a slim paperback volume until October when Signet (of Penguin Group) is publishing it. The timing for hosting these two events was not chosen randomly. Since the UN Stockholm Conference was on its way, the same as the Paris Summit. In this direction, see  HYPERLINK „https://science.sciencemag.org/content/175/4027/1197” https://science.sciencemag.org/content/175/4027/1197, and  HYPERLINK „http://donellameadows.org/archives/forty-years-later-the-reception-of-the-limits-to-growth-in-italy-1971-1974/” http://donellameadows.org/archives/forty-years-later-the-reception-of-the-limits-to-growth-in-italy-1971-1974/.

A month after the slim volume was publicly known, received its critics. An article published by New York Times at that time sustained that the Limits to Growth is ‘an empty and misleading work’. With reference to this, see the article of Peter Passell, Marc Roberts, and Leonard Ross, The Limits to Growth, New York Times, April 2, 1972,  HYPERLINK „https://www.nytimes.com/1972/04/02/archives/the-limits-to-growth-a-report-for-the-club-of-romes-project-on-the.html” https://www.nytimes.com/1972/04/02/archives/the-limits-to-growth-a-report-for-the-club-of-romes-project-on-the.html.

The UN Conference on the Human Environment was held on 5-16 June 1972, Stockholm. It was attended by many government representatives from all over the world, showing that it was an event with a great impact on human life. The Conference was conducted by the Secretary-General, Maurice Strong. Among the guests were Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, Mr. John D. Ehrlichman, President Nixon’s Assistant for Domestic Affairs, Mr. Laurance S. Rockefeller, Chairman of the Citizens Advisory Committee on Environmental Quality, son of John D. Rockefeller Jr., and many others. See the attendance list at  HYPERLINK „https://undocs.org/en/A/CONF.48/INF.5/rev.1” https://undocs.org/en/A/CONF.48/INF.5/rev.1, pp. 66-67. At the Conference participated and President of the World Bank, Robert S. McNamara. His name doesn’t appear on the list, but a very short recording shows that he was present. In this direction, see  HYPERLINK „https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2fIGOFFN3c” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2fIGOFFN3c (4:22-4:40).

From Recommendation 11 of the Conference Report, results that Mr. Strong was in charge to ensure that special attention will be given to environmental and population issues. According to Recommendations 36 and 37, this would be a preparatory process for the emergence of a new synthesis between economic development and the environment, for the rethinking of the traditional concept of growth, as for the preparedness of the 1974 World Population Conference. With reference to this, see the Report of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, Stockholm, 5-16 June 1972, United Nations Publication, New York, 1973, pp. 8, 45.

Not only that Mr. Strong assured himself that the UN Conference will be organized according to the later Agenda 21 goals, but in an interview taken by BBC just before the summit, he has spoken about the one-child policy. See the BBC interview at  HYPERLINK „https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YCatox0Lxo” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YCatox0Lxo.

Like the other environmental conferences, the Paris Summit from the fall of ’72 accorded attention to environmental, social, and economic issues. There it has been spoken for the first time about an international monetary reform and about the need for creating a Single (or Common) Market. Those would be the political measures that lead to the single digital market of tomorrow. On May 1, 1992, the businessman George Washington Hunt made a videotape recording just one month before startup the U.N. UNCED Earth Summit Meeting from Rio de Janeiro. In this recording, Mr. Hunt made a fine analysis regarding the event that was coming to take place in Brazil. Also, has spoken a little bit and about his participation at the 4th World Wilderness Congress from the fall of 1987, Denver, Colorado.
